From the Riaño reservoir to Peña Espigüete

This area is known for its majestic mountain landscapes, green valleys and the spectacular Riaño reservoir, which offers panoramic views and recreational activities.

The hiking routes in the Riaño Mountain are numerous and varied, suitable for all levels. Highlights include routes such as the Gilbo Route, which offers impressive views of the reservoir and surrounding peaks, and the Valdeón Route, which connects with the famous Picos de Europa National Park.

The Palentina Mountain is another jewel of the Cantabrian mountain range. This area is known for its rugged landscapes, high peaks and remarkable biodiversity. Among the highest points is Pico Curavacas, with 2,524 meters, and Espigüete, with 2,450 meters, both offering exciting challenges for mountaineers.

Among the most notable routes are the Mazobre waterfall, climbs to Lake Las Lomas, and Laguna Fuentes Carrionas, as well as the emblematic GR-1, a route that runs through Spain from Ampurias to Finisterre.

Picos de Europa National Park

The Cares Route

Located in the heart of the Picos de Europa, it is one of the most emblematic and spectacular trails in Spain. This impressive route, also known as the «Divine Throat», follows the course of the Cares River, crossing mountainous landscapes of unparalleled beauty.

The trail extends for about 12 kilometers, connecting the towns of Caín, in León, and Poncebos, in Asturias. The route is known for its stunning views, with the Cares River flowing through a deep gorge, and sheer rock walls rising on either side of the path.
